She is a Certified Digital Finance Practitioner, at Digital Frontiers Institute. She holds a degree in Finance from the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe and many certifications in Leadership, Strategy, and Microfinance. She joined the Microfinance industry in 2012 and founded MoneyMart Finance in 2014, where she is the Group Chief Executive Officer.
In 2021, The International Institute of Philanthropy, IIP, through its Zimbabwe office and on the recommendation of the board, incorporating the African Institute of Philanthropy, (AIP)
and the Women’s Institute of Philanthropy, (WIP) awarded her an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, DHL, and officially be referred to as Dr. Ethel Chiwara Mupambwa, Doctor of Humane Letters, DHL, Honorius, causa. In that instance, she was also conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Business Leadership & Entrepreneurship from the International Women’s University, IWU.
Her passion is financial inclusion, having grown up in a financially excluded area in the rural streets of Nembudziya Gokwe in Zimbabwe. She has nine years of experience linking Finance to business operations. Five of them specializing in microfinance focus more on innovative ways to include women and youths excluded financially. The most recent Findex found that of the world’s 2 billion unbanked, 1.1 billion women are in rural and urban areas. Women face unique obstacles in accessing financial services, and she would not let that continue; being a woman, she is determined to change such statistics. She is passionate about working with women who do not have access to funding and financial solutions, from the low-income earning micro-entrepreneurs such as vegetable vendors who are usually excluded from mainstream financial services.
She won many awards and was recognized for the work that she did, she was recently named among African Business Heroes of 2020, a Jack Ma foundation initiative, and was recognized as the Businesswoman of the Year 2021 by The Zimbabwe National Business & Leadership Awards.
